Limitations & when to consider alternatives
Known limitations
- Scanned PDFs may not work. Scanned PDFs are pictures of text, so Glasp cannot select or highlight their text.
- Desktop PDF applications are unsupported. A PDF opened in a separate desktop application does not reach the browser extension.
- Some sites are disabled. Glasp does not run on sensitive pages such as banking, password managers, health portals, and SSO pages.
- YouTube summaries require transcripts. Videos without available transcripts cannot be summarized, and live streams lack transcripts until processing finishes.
- Kindle imports are not live synchronization. Kindle highlights must be imported again, and Amazon limits how much of a book can be exported.
Look elsewhere when
- You need a desktop-native application rather than a browser-based tool.
- Your workflow requires SSO or enterprise identity controls.
- You need image analysis rather than image saving and annotation.
